Delhi Excursions
Delhi is ideally located for visits to a range of attractions in the
region – Agra, Jaipur, Khajuraho, the royal heritage towns of Rajasthan,
wildlife sanctuaries in the neighbouring states, trips and treks in the
Himalayas, pilgrimage tours to towns like Varanasi, Ajmer or Sarnath.There
are a number of tourist excursion options from the capital of India, New
Delhi. Be it wildlife sanctuaries, heritage sites, hill stations, or the
quaint little towns, many surround Delhi. Haryana, which encloses Delhi
on three sides, is ideal for quick getaways as most of its tourist spots
are quite close.
AGRA (200 km)
The city of Agra is 200 Kms from Delhi. Agra was the capital of Mughals
and the city has retained the Mughal fever in its buildings and social
life. Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved queen
Mumtaz Mahal. Taj is one of the most extravagant monument ever built for
love.
JAIPUR
The capital of Rajasthan is just 300 kms from Delhi and one can take
the conducted tour or train or state transport buses to this Pink city.
In Jaipur the culture, the tradition, the art, the architecture of Rajasthan
appear in full bloom. The Hawa Mahal, the imposing Amer Palace, Nahargarh
fort, the city palace, Jantar Mantar and many other places are worth visiting.
Jaipur also acts as the corridor to other places in Rajasthan.
MATHURA (145 km)
The birthplace of Lord Krishna is a temple town with ghats along the
river. It is on the route to Agra.The town of Mathura (Brajbhoomi) is
located in the western part of the state of Uttar Pradesh in the northern
region of India. It is a part of the great northern plains and is situated
on the western bank of the river Yamuna. It is famous as the birthplace
of Lord Krishna, an important deity in the Hindu religious pantheon. It
is an important pilgrim place of the Hindus and one of the seven most
sacred cities in India. The main pilgrim center in Mathura is the Shri
Krishna Janmbhoomi temple. Mathura is also an important crafts center.

BHARATPUR (180 km)
Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary Also known as the Keoladeo Ghanga Sanctuary,
it is famous for rare avian species. Stretching over a 29 sq. km. marshy
area it is an ideal terrain for migratory birds. Some 353 species live
and breed within the park, some of which are egrets, darters, cormorants,
grey herons, sarus crane, siberian crane, rosy headed pelican etc. There
are also a number of spotted deer, sambar, nilgai, wild boar, python and
porcupine. Jeepable roads that form a network through the marshland and
boats that canbe painted through weeds make for easy viewing of the birds.
SURAJ KUND (15 km)
Situated 11 km from the Qutab Minar on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road,
Surajkund is the site of a perennial lake surrounded by rock-cut steps.
The Sun temple stood here during AD 1000, the remains of which can still
be seen here. The temple and the enchanting surroundings of this place
won the heart of a Tomar chieftain Surajpal, who belonged to a clan of
sun worshippers. Raja Surajpal had a sun pool and amphitheatre built in
this area with the sun temple at its periphery. After the chieftain Surajpal,
who built the complex, the place was named Surajkund
BADKHAL LAKE (32 km)
Situated in the Faridabad district of Haryana, the panoramic Badhkal
Lake is a natural pool surrounded by vast lawns and lush greenery. Just
over 30 km from New Delhi, the lake is a popular picnic spot. It also
offers boating facilities to tourists.
BHARATPUR BIRDS SANCTUARY
A six hour journey from Delhi, well connected by road and railway is the
former princely state of Bharatpur. Time has seen this place in great
splendour and today Bharatpur is famous for the Keoladeo national park
or popularly called as the Bharatpur Birds sanctuary. The sanctuary houses
nearly 400 species of birds and many reptiles and animals. The place is
visited by migratory birds and the Siberian cranes. Bharatpur also has
the Deegh fort and the museums which tell the saga of a glorious past.
NEEMRANA
Situated 122 km from New Delhi, on a rocky outcrop just above an unspoilt
village, lies Neemrana, the site of a majestic fort built in 1464 by Prithviraj
Chauhan III. The Neemrana Fort, as it is known, has now been converted
into a heritage resort
