Situated in the heart of Delhi, the unique Dilli
Haat is an upgraded version of the traditional weekly
market, offering a delightful amalgam of craft, food
and cultural activities. However, while the village
Haat is a mobile, flexible arrangement, at Dilli Haat,
a permanent Haat, it is the craftsmen who are mobile
and ever - changing thereby offering a kaleidoscopic
view of the richness and diversity of Indian handicrafts
and artifacts.
There are as many as 62 stalls at the haat, which
are allotted on rotational basis to the craftsmen
of different states. The haat is also a venue, which
presents authentic regional cuisines of the Sates
of India. Besides this, cultural activities like dances,
dramas, fashion shows are also organized in the haat.
The Dilli Haat, located oppsite the INA Market, is
a project jointly set up by the New Delhi Municipal
Council and Delhi Tourism. One of the primary objectives
of setting this complex was to provide marketing facilities
to rural artisans. All kinds of goods made by such
artisans are displayed at intervals during the tear.
Aside from this, there are permanent shops reflecting
the kind of goods made in various states of the country.
It is an ideal place to spend some time while admiring
the greate array of handicrafts, jewellery, garments
and artefacts representing the workmanship of almost
all parts of the country. Those interested om folk
arts could find this spot a real entertainer. |
